Obituary for Abe J. Lawson

Abe J. Lawson of Mineral Point, MO. was born on October 31, 1930 at Elvins, MO. a son to Bert Lawson and Ora (White) Lawson. On September 26, 1953 Abe was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary Emily by Rev. Fulbright at the Potosi United Methodist Church. They shared 68 years together. Abe proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1970. Abe was the owner and operator, along with his wife Mary, of Lawson’s Hardware located on North Missouri Street in Potosi for nearly 42 years. Abe and Mary enjoyed serving the faithful patrons of Washington County. Abe was a hard working man who always had to be busy doing something. Abe loved his farm and tending to his cattle. Family meant so much to him. He will be greatly missed.

Abe departed this life on Sunday, March 27, 2022 at Potosi Manor having reached the age of 91 years, 4 months, and 23 days.

Those left behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Mary Lawson; three children: Brenda Smith (husband, Ralph), Gary Lawson (wife, Sandy), Rhonda Thornhill; four grandchildren: Robert Nelson, Alan Lawson, Emily Thornhill, Mary Lawson; two great grandchildren: Isabelle Thornhill and Piper Lawson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jerry and Carol Emily, Herbert Emily, and Carol Emily. Abe is also survived by nieces, nephews and many dear friends that he has made throughout his life.

In addition to his parents, Abe was preceded in death by his grandson, Dustin Skiles; brother and sister-in-law: Chester and Jean Lawson; and half sister Cleo Dunlap.

A time of visitation will be held Thursday, March 31, 2022 from 11 AM to 2 PM at DeClue Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will immediately follow beginning at 2 PM. Abe will receive full military honors presented by the United States Air Force and local VFW Post 6996. Elder Leonard Compton will be officiating his service.
