Obituary for Gladys Mae Carter (Campbell)

Gladys Mae Carter of Potosi, Missouri, was born on April 8, 1929, in Huzzah, Missouri, a daughter to the late William Robert Campbell and Myrtle May (Harper) Campbell. Gladys passed away on Monday, April 11, 2022, having reached the age of ninety-three years, and three days.

On June 28, 1947, Gladys was united in marriage to Lindel Carter, and they spent 70 years together before he passed away on August 7, 2017.

Those who remain to cherish her memory include her two children: Alan Carter (wife, Margie), and Lindy Carter; grandchildren: Christopher Carter (wife, Heather), Amy Brose (husband, Rick), Ryan Carter, Joseph Aiello, Michelle Bumeter (husband, Scott), and Meagan Garcia; great-grandchildren: Dylan Finnegan (wife, Carly), Hannah Finnegan, Mikey Finnegan, Penelope Garcia, Lani Carter, Lindy Aiello, and Joseph Aiello; 2 great-great grandchildren: Audrey and Bradley; siblings: Albert L. Campbell (Rita), Loretta Russell, and Hazel Smith; in-laws: Ilene Campbell, Mildred Campbell, and Norma Campbell. Also survived are nieces, nephews, and extended family.

While based in Hawaii with her husband, Lindel, Gladys attended and graduated college with her master’s degree. After moving back home, her degree didn’t transfer, so she went back to college and obtained her master’s degree from Harris-Stowe College in St. Louis. Gladys taught at Maplewood School District. After teaching for many years, Gladys began working for Missouri Division of Family Services as a social worker, from which she retired from. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church. She loved reading and was full of knowledge. In addition, Gladys found so much joy by being connected to her friends on Facebook.

In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Lindel; siblings: Rev. Robert J. Campbell, Shirley Harden, William Arthur Campbell, and Rev. Thomas Campbell; in-laws: Aurelia Campbell, Clyde Hardin, Doc Russell, and Richard Smith.

A Visitation will be Wednesday, April 13, 2022, from 5 to 8 pm at DeClue Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Thursday, April 14th from 9 to 11 am.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at 11 am at the DeClue Memorial Chapel. Bro. Guy Conway will officiate the service, assisted by Pastor Tom Conboy. Interment will follow at Hopewell Cemetery.
