Obituary for Wendell David Eye

Wendell David Eye of Potosi, Missouri, was born on February 27, 1942 in Shirley, Missouri, a son of the late John L Eye and the late Sarah Jane (Kathcart) Eye. Wendell passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021 having reached the age of 79 years, 2 months, and 6 days.

Those who remain to cherish his memory include his wife, Janice Eye; son, Kelly Eye (wife, Kellie); two daughters: Cindy Kopp and Natalie Eye; two step children: RP Coleman (wife, Cathy), Cassie Essmyer (husband, Michael); six grandchildren: David Kopp (wife, Jordan), Bonne Morgan, Lane Eye (wife, Audrey), Kaitlin Weeks and Spencer Moses, Olivia Thebeau, Andrew Farris (wife, Logan), Emily Eye; bonus grandchildren: Ryan and Olivia Coleman, Logan, Sophie, Chloe Essmyer; sixteen great grandchildren: Rylen, Barrett, Harlan, Grayson, Lyrix, Brooklyn, Jaxson, Brayden, Grant, Alexa, Annie, Conner, Evelyn, Titus, Jude, and Blair; two brothers: Sam Eye (wife, Sarah) and Michael Eye (wife, Sherrie Cresswell)In-Laws: Jack Wilkerson, Mike and Lana Vandergriff, Brenda Marler, Dave and Karen Benson, Pat and Jill DeClue, Jeff and Tammy Benson. Wendell also leaves behind many special nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his father and mother, Wendell was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Darlene (Shrum) Eye on November 2, 2006; grandson Jake Eye; nine siblings: Donald, Oval, Elza, and Sloman Eye, Doris Fenstermaker, Mildred Reed, Lela Kendall, Grace Vaughn, and Norma Jane Wilkerson; In-Laws: Violet Eye, Opal Eye, Bonnie Eye, Ethel Eye, George Fenstermaker, Melvin Reed, Harry Kendall, Bill Wilkerson, Bob Vaughn, and Vern Marler; and dear friend Wayne Fitzwater.

Wendell was saved at the age of 10 at a revival being preached by Brother Robinson. Wendell married two ladies and loved each of them equally. He was united in marriage to Darlene Shrum on April 23, 1960 and shared 46 years together. There were three children born to this union to which he loved with all of his heart. After Darlene’s passing in 2006 Wendell later married Janice (Benson) Coleman on December 26, 2009 and they shared 11 years memories together. Wendell was thankful to have met Janice because he thought he could never love and be happy after Darlene’s passing. He loved all of his grandchildren so much. They were truly a gift from God. Wendell was a member of White Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He loved his church family. Although sickness had come to Wendell, he had one goal when he left this world and that was to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, face to face. Wendell’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those he loved and touched.

Visitation will be Friday, May 7, 2021 from 4 to 8 pm at DeClue Funeral Home.

Visitation will resume on Saturday, May 8, 2021 from 9 am until the time of funeral service at 11 am held at the DeClue Chapel. Pastor Scott Welty will officiate the service.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22202.

Interment will follow in White Oak Grove Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were respectfully entrusted to DeClue Funeral Home.
